My Report Of Waitākiri School

Waitākiri Primary School has 627 students that are from Year 0-6. Waitakiri School has a lot of opportunities for all the students, and is a modern learning environment. It is located on the eastern side of Christchurch.

Waitakiri is a brand new school and has lots of advantages because of this. One of the advantages is our new learning studios. There are so many things we can do like, learn with each other and meet new people. It is a great learning space because we have these things called breakout spaces, which are on the side of the studios. We can use them in all different ways like, working in a quiet space if the common area is too noisy. There are 3 breakout spaces. We have the Media Zone, which is the quiet corner and where the green screen is, to film all different types of things. We also have the Silent Room which is a space where we go to learn if we just want some quiet time. The last breakout space is the Collaboration Station which is the most common breakout space because the space is where we all meet and discuss what's happening next and we also sing songs. Another advantage to us is that the students have 4 teachers in the studio and the teachers all have different strengths, and ways of teaching. The kitchen is in the corner of the studios and not only do we use it for cooking, we also use it as a learning space for some of us. We are also very lucky because we have lots of technology in our learning space which is quite handy for people who don't bring their own iPads. We have all different types of technology like Computers, TVs and IPads, which are used lots in the studios.

The culture we have at Waitākiri is amazing. There are so many different types of people from all different types of cultures. The most common are European and Māori, but there are all different types here at Waitākiri. We take culture here really seriously and the teachers want us to learn as much about it as possible. We are taught this by, putting Māori word labels on most of the things around our school, and we have even named our eating area after a Māori word, Te Ao Marama, which means the place of light. On a Monday we do Te Reo and Kapa Haka which is a great way to be exposed to the language. Our teachers also greet us in Māori and give us simple commands and are given the option to learn Mandarin and French.

We have so many Opportunities at Waitākiri. All the students from Year 0 up get a chance to involve themselves in at least something. Some of the opportunities Waitākiri has to offer are, Chess Club, Enviro FERNS, Jump Jam, Hagley Sports, dance crew, gardening club, tinkering with tools and Camp the options are endless, there is something for everyone at this school.

In conclusion Waitākiri School have brand new learning studios that meet a huge variety of needs and abilities. The Culture of the school is important and value by the students and teachers offering a variety of languages. The opportunities are vast and there is something for everyone. We hope to see you soon at Waitākiri School.
